Egg Biryani Recipe
Egg biryani is a flavorful and delicious dish made with aromatic basmati rice, boiled eggs, and a blend of Indian spices. It is a popular one-pot meal that is perfect for a weekend lunch or dinner. Here is a step-by-step recipe to make egg biryani at home:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 4 boiled eggs
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 cup yogurt
- 2 green chillies, chopped
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tbsp biryani masala
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- A pinch of saffron strands
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp ghee
- 3 cups water
Instructions:
1. Wash the rice thoroughly in running water and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and keep the rice aside.
2. In a bowl, whisk the yogurt and add biryani masala, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala powder. Mix well and keep aside.
3. Heat 2 tablespoons of ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, fennel seeds, and green chillies. Fry for a few seconds until fragrant.
4. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
5. Add ginger-garlic paste and chopped tomato. Cook until the tomatoes become soft.
6. Add the yogurt mixture and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the masala starts leaving oil.
7. Add boiled eggs and salt to the masala. Mix well and keep aside.
8. In a separate pot, boil 3 cups of water. Add saffron strands and salt to the water.
9. Add the soaked rice to the boiling water and cook for 10-12 minutes or until the rice is cooked.
10. Once the rice is cooked, drain the excess water and keep it aside.
11. In a large pot or a biryani pot, spread a layer of rice at the bottom. Spread the egg masala on top of the rice.
12. Add another layer of rice on top of the egg masala. Repeat the layers until all the rice and egg masala are used.
13. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of ghee over the rice.
14. Cover the pot with a lid and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes.
15. Once the biryani is cooked, turn off the heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
16. Garnish the egg biryani with fried onions and coriander leaves.
Your delicious egg biryani is ready to be served. Serve hot with raita or a side dish of your choice. Enjoy!
